I know I’m not the only person who has been struggling with loving myself. Recently, while doing a Bible study with a friend, God revealed to me the true meaning of loving myself. I really want to share this Word with you even if you already love yourself.
I used to think for me to love myself I had to look a certain way and I thought I had to accept all my flaws. Of course this is part of loving yourself BUT this is NOT all. God convicted me with this Word I’m about to share with you. Are you ready for this?
Read this verse:
“And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:39
I’m sure you’ve read this verse before, if not, now you have. Read the last two words of that verse again. Yes, it says “as yourself”. I’ve read this verse so many times but now I understand it. I have to love others as I love myself. But wait… I don’t know how to love myself besides accepting my flaws and thinking I have to look a certain way. When I realized that this was my definition of ‘loving myself’ I knew something was very wrong, not only in the way I am loving myself but also in the ways I love others. God opened my eyes to see that the way I love myself reflects the way I love others. This got me thinking that I haven’t been loving others as well as I should, all because I don’t know how to love myself.
Read this:
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
There you go, a good explanation of what love is. God explained to me that I should be kind to myself, not behave rudely, not seek my own etc. All these things are ways to love. How you should love yourself. Love yourself so that you can love on others. When you have love, for yourself and others you’re doing what Matt. 22:39 says. When you have love you have God:
“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
1 John 4:8
Start loving yourself like you should, you deserve it. You are God’s beautiful creation. Loving yourself takes practice, it doesn’t happen over night. My tip for you on how you can practice loving yourself, is PRAY and ASK God to teach and help you. I hope God spoke to you while you read this.
My prayer for you:
Father God, I pray that you will forever fill your beautiful child’s heart with your love. Teach her how to love herself so that she can love others as she loves herself. Let Your love God, fill her up and let Your Spirit dwell within her. I pray for prosperity, love and victory to follow you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Go be a world changer
Love
